Crochet halloween pizza sweater

Studio DIY's Crochet Pizza Sweater

21 October, 2015

We love Kelly from Studio DIY! We challenged this crafty chic to make us a fun crochet project that was easy and can be worn during the fall season, or at a Halloween party. Her creation: a crochet pizza sweater! We loved it.

In Kelly's words: After we were bitten by the crochet bug I wanted to put crochet food on ALL THE THINGS! Ok, maybe not all the things. But at least every single one of my sweaters. We decided to start with a staple… pizza! Yep, we used some of our favorite yarn from Commonthread by DMC to make a pizza sweater and I refuse to take it off, even if it is still 80 degrees here! The best thing about this DIY pizza patch is you can slap it on anything: a sweater, sweatshirt, tote bag… oh the possibilities! Ready???

We used a variety of DMC’s yarns to give our pizza a realistic look. My favorite might be the mushrooms made out of their metallic Tiara yarn because it gives the mushrooms all different hues, just like the real thing!

Term-Glossary

To make the pizza, you’ll need an understanding of several basic crochet stitches. If these projects have inspired you non-crocheters SO MUCH that you want to learn to crochet, there are a TON of awesome tutorials on YouTube to follow along with. But for those of you who already know the basics, here’s a glossary of the terms and stitches we’ll be using here:

ch: chain stitch
sl st: slip stitch
sc: single crochet

To Finish

To attach your toppings to your pizza, use a plastic yarn needle and the same color yarn as the topping to sew the pieces on, going in a round across the stitches to hide them. Leave a tail on either end underneath, and once you’ve gone all the way around you can tie the tails together on the the underside of the pizza to finish off.

To attach your slice to your sweater use a plastic yarn needle, and an embroidery thread the same color as your cheese, and stitch all the way around. For an extra hold, adhere the slice using an iron-on bond before stitching the slice to the sweater.
