Knit DIY: Hoodie Scarf

Winter is definitely here... if only for a few more weeks. Keep warm in this stylish Knit Hoodie Scarf.

Materials

Materials:

7 – 50g balls of DMC Woolly, color 072
US 6 (4 mm) knitting needles
Cable needle
Stitch markers
DMC yarn needle

Abbreviations and Stitches:

K - Knit
P – Purl
RS – Right Side
WS – Wrong Side
pm or sm – Place marker on the first row. Slip the markers on the following rows until hood decreases are completed.

C8B – Slip 4 stitches onto a cable needle and hold them to the back. Knit the next 4 stitches from the left needle and then the 4 held on the cable needle. This creates a right leaning cable.
C8F - Slip 4 stitches onto a cable needle and hold them to the front. Knit the next 4 stitches from the left needle and then the 4 held on the cable needle. This creates a left leaning cable.

M1 – Make one. Insert the left needle under strand between the two needles from front to back, lifting the strand on to the left needle. Knit this through the back loop, creating a new stitch.
K2tog (decrease one st) – Knit two stitches together

Instructions:

Cast on 64 stitches
Row 1 (RS): Knit all sts.
Row 2 (WS): K10, p16, k12, p16, k10
Rows 3 - 6: Repeat Rows 1 and 2 twice.
Row 7: K10, C8B, C8F, k12. C8B, C8F, K10.
Row 8: K10, p16, k12, p16, k10
Rows 9 - 12: Repeat Rows 1 and 2 twice.

Repeat Rows 1 – 12 until the work measures 40 inches from the cast on edge.

Begin hood increases
Continue in the 12-row cable pattern repeat and AT THE SAME TIME on each RS row, k10, M1, pm/sm, k16 (the cable sts), pm/sm, M1, k12, M1, pm/sm, k16 (the cable sts), k10.

Continue increasing on each RS row until you have 94 sts in total – 20 border sts, 16 cable sts, 32 center sts, 16 cable sts, and 10 border sts.

Maintaining this new stitch count and continuing to work the 12-row cable pattern repeat, knit 80 rows.

Begin hood decreases
Continue in the 12 row cable pattern and AT THE SAME TIME on each RS row, knit to 2 sts before the 1st marker, k2tog, sm, k16 (the cable sts), sm, k2tog, knit to 2 sts before the 3rd marker, k2tog, sm, k16 (the cable sts), k10.

Work until you return to the original stitch count of 10-16-12-16-10, a total of 64 stitches.

Continue in the 12-row cable pattern repeat for 40 inches ending on Row 6 or 12.

Bind off. Fold the scarf in half. On the side without the increases, seam the fold, top down for 4 – 5 inches.

Weave in the ends.
