Knit DIY: Dog Sweater

Bundle your pooch up this winter with this DIY Dog Sweater. With our soft 100% merino wool yarn is stylish and warm and your best friend will love you even more!

Materials: 

DMC5-2525-update

DMC Woolly. One 50g ball each of colors 056 and 122.
US 6 (4mm) circular needles and double pointed needles
Waste yarn.
DMC Yarn needle

Abbreviations and Stitches: 

K – Knit
st/s – stitch/stitches
2x2 Rib – Knit two stitches, Purl two stitches Repeat from * to * to the end of the round.
Stockinette Stitch (worked flat) – Knit on the right side. Purl on the wrong side.
kfb – Knit into the front of the stitch and leave it on the left needle. Now knit into back of the stitch. Move both sts to the right needle.
Bind off in pattern – As you bind off, knit the knits and purl the purls as you come to them. This will make a stretchier edge.

Dog Measurements:

Breed: Pug
Adjust the dimensions to your dog.

From neck to bottom: 13 ¾”
Around neck: 15 3/8”
From neck to leg (front side): 5 ½”
Around body: 20”
From leg to leg (from the bottom) 13 ¾”
Around front leg: 9”

 

Instructions:

Using DMC Woolly, color 122 and the circular needle,
Cast in 92 stitches. Place a marker and join in the round being careful not to twist the stitches.
Work 30 rows in 2x2 rib.

Change to DMC Woolly, color 056
Rnds 1 and 2: Knit all sts.
Rnd 3: Kfb, K to 2 sts before the marker, kfb, K1. (94 sts)
Rnd 4: Knit all sts.
Rnd 5: K1, Kfb, K to 3 sts before the marker, kfb, K2. (96 sts)
Rnd 6: Knit all sts.
Rnd 7: K2, Kfb, K to 4 sts before the marker, kfb, K3. (98 sts)
Rnd 8: Knit all sts.
Rnd 9: K3, Kfb, K to 5 sts before the marker, kfb, K4. (100 sts)
Rnd 10: Knit all sts.
Rnd 11: K4, Kfb, K to 6 sts before the marker, kfb, K5. (102 sts)
Rnd 12: Knit all sts.
Rnd 13: K5, Kfb, K to 7 sts before the marker, kfb, K6. (104 sts)
Rnd 14: Knit all sts.
Rnd 15: K6, Kfb, K to 8 sts before the marker, kfb, K7. (106 sts)
Rnd 16: Knit all sts.
Rnd 17: K7, Kfb, K to 9 sts before the marker, kfb, K8. (108 sts)
Rnd 18: Knit all sts.
Rnd 19: K8, Kfb, K to 10 sts before the marker, kfb, K9. (110 sts)
Rnd 20 - 25: Knit all sts.
Rnd 26: K11. BO 16 sts. K58. BO 16 sts. K11.
Belly Rows 27 – 32: K11. Work 22 sts flat in Stockinette stitch for 6 rows beginning with a purl row on Row 27. Maintain the beginning of the round marker. Cut the yarn.
Back Rows 27 – 32: With the WS facing, join yarn and work 58 sts flat in Stockinette stitch for 6 rows beginning with a purl row on Row 27. Cut the yarn.
Round 33: With the RS facing, join the yarn at the starting marker. K11, cast on 16 sts, K58, cast on 16 sts, K11.
Rnd 34 - 62: Knit all sts.

Change to DMC Woolly, color 122,
Work 10 rounds on 2x2 rib stitch.
Bind off in pattern.

Continuing with DMC Woolly, color 122 and the double pointed needles,
At each leg opening, pick up 42 sts and work 8 rows of 2x2 rib. Bind off in pattern.

Weave in the ends.
